Makola in Accra

Coming from Motorway Extension, North Dzorwulu, we hired a car for 10 Cedis per hour and drived for 10 minutes to Accra's most popular market - Makola Market. You will find stores, informal stalls and walking vendors selling varied selection of arts and crafts in wood, leather and metal and a huge textile market. But remember, when you go shopping in Makola, just like in any other flea markets, try to bargain a lot. You know you get good price if you manage to put the price down to 70% or more from its original tag. I got my black elephant for 33 Cedis (roughly $22) from its 80 Cedis original mark.

To Venezia

My guide next time:
Coming from Viale Ancona, a 2-block walk brings you to Pam Supermarket.

Bus #4 with a 2-way trip for €1.80 takes you to the city center. The bus stops a number of times on the 15-minute trip into Venice, so stay on board until you reach the end of the line.

Infront of the pitstop is where you buy the ticket for the water bus; it's €6.50. Once you board the boat, your trip commences to the famous canals of Venice.

Go Mobile Blogging

I love to write and I love to travel. I want to document my adventures around the world; and I want it in an instant.

To enable me to do this, I go for mobile blogging. From this time on, I'll try uploading my gigs with some media onto it and all these will be done using my mobile phone.

Let me test my first upload which was taken in Zurich, Switzerland.

Mafia in JFK

JFK flight - Majority of crew's nationality was Filipino. We were 4 then plus a Korean who spent her secondary school and university days in the Philippines. She speaks fluent Filipino, so this trip was a blast - a big Filipino mafia aboard!

It's very rare to fly with crew who'd want to visit the Statue of Liberty. Instead, crew would head to Time Square and splurge into shopping the whole day. We took advantage of this opportunity and went straight away to this iconic statue.

We purchased a round trip ferry ticket that operate a loop, stopping first at Liberty Island and then at Ellis Island before returning back to Battery Park, New York. Sights from this boat trip were astonishing. As the boat moves away from the harbor, you will see the beauty of Manhattan. While we approach the island, with a torch and a book in her hands, Lady Liberty welcomes visitors.

We stayed there for a couple of hours and proceeded back to NY. We didn't anymore go to Ellis Island as were were exhausted. Earlier, after purchasing the ferry ticket, we had to wait under the mid-day sun in a 2-block queue to board the boat.

Back in Brooklyn, our Filipino Mafia decided to split into 2: the rest went for snacks and others to Brooklyn Bridge. It can be seen from the from the hotel; it looks so near but a walk to it takes like forever. Unfortunately, we took the wrong direction so we traveled a bit farther. After some photo moments, we settled for a snacks in the nearby fast food and made it a day.

After a long day in NY, here are 2 notes to keep in mind:
Go and visit Liberty in the morning. If you want to maximize your adventure and be granted a crown access, you need to be in the ticket booth as early as 6am. Otherwise, available tickets for USD12 are limited to the island only, which means a view of something like the above.

After the 9/11 terrorist assault, her crown was closed to the public due to safety and security reasons. It was only reopened last 4th July and permits 10 people per 20 minute block of time.

MRT/ LRT is better that NYC subway? Despite its aged appeal, NYC transit system continues to
deliver efficient service to the public. In fact, among the world's busiest metro system, it is the only one that runs 24 hours a day, 365 a year.
Until then...

Photography

One of the most popular hobbies among us, flight attendants, is photography. Why not? Since our lifestyle is mainly traveling, we get to see iconic places, meet beautiful people, learn different cultures, and a lot more stuff to share with. This hobby maybe a bit expensive but if you can develop your artistic side and share this to others, money would not be an issue.

At first, as most of us experienced, we started with a simple compact digital camera and eventually bought a DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex). For some, they took it to the next level by upgrading their lens kit.

I bought my Nikon D
40 almost 2 months ago and since then I haven't really explored its features. Recently, when I went back home to Manila for a 7-day leave, I got the chance to practice and took some shots at my mom's garden. I was very pleased to see the results.

In Six Months

These photos were taken before I joined the airline industry in 2007.

I came across these pictures on my hard drive and these can be a good start in attaining my goal of losing my excess fat and toning back my body.

Due to irregular schedule and fluctuating determination, regaining this type of body can be a challenge. However, with this, it will make me remember how I used to look and continue to embrace my goal.

Let's see in 6 months or so.

Motivation and Habit

I came across these words at gym back in the Philippines saying something to this effect, “Motivation gets you started and Habit keeps you going.”

The gap between motivation and habit is way far, well of course, depending to such goals. Classic example, if your ideal weight should just be around 70 kilos and you are weighing beyond it, achieving a Zac Efron-like body can be a motivation. You enrolled at Fitness First locking your self for a year, which you compensated at around AED 5,500.00 (approximately $1,500.00), would be a big “No! No!” You'd waste your money, you'd waste your time and you'd not achieve the real purpose for hitting the gym – staying fit and healthy. Trust me, I know what I’m saying!

In attaining a goal, inspiration leads the success to motivate someone. If you want a body like Zac Efron, you may start by getting a copy of his pictures online and visualize having the same type of body in the next six months to a year. Then, enroll yourself to the gym, create a fitness program, watch your diet, and in time, you will get use to these routines. Habit kicks in to your system and without knowing it, you are achieving the result of your gym pains and sweats.

It can be very effortless to lose motivation but people who have distinct goals, a standard routine and a program are best keys to maintain a regime.

The same thing applies to this blog. I wanted a mainstream site which I would have regular readers but eventually, I could not update it. I had the motivation and I acquired the habit but it all started from an off the beam inspiration. Now, look at the last time this blog was updated. Get it?

Now it is time to establish a real goal – to maintain the skills and apply my creativity, hence, providing a venue to exchange views and ideas. Eventually, with this vision in mind, habit streams through my veins leading me to achieving my goal. And who knows, perks and bonuses may come along the way.

So, what is your motivation?

Great to Be Home

It is just appropriate to start the travel section of this journal with a layover trip in my home country – Philippines.

I grew up in Quezon City which used to be the former capital of the country (1948 – 1976) and considered to be the most populous among cities in the metro. And from there, we moved a bit to the southern shores of Manila Bay – the Cavite province.

My last layover trip in Manila happened last September 2008 when I was still with Etihad Airways and since I joined Emirates Airline, I knew that such trip would follow after my ab initio training. Now that I was scheduled to do this flight, it just happened that my parents are in Dubai for a vacation. So, instead of swapping this sector, I brought some stuff from my previous flat back here in the Philippines.

Before going home to Cavite, my brothers and I went to Greenhills Shopping Center to have a software update of my iPhone so as to save time later on. As we arrived in Cavite, I was, as usual, welcomed by our every loving Dachshund, Muymuy, and ofcourse by my beloved handsome Nephew, Rizen.

It was just wonderful to be home.

Update:
On the flight back to homebase, the Filipino crew were excited as we were informed that Martin Nieverra would be a passenger in business class. He will be in Dubai for a concert at Zabeel Park.

While I was having a big bite of my pear, I was caught in a moment when he came out from the lavatory. All I could say was "Hi Mart!" He replied with a big smile and had a chat with me. He was very friendly and indeed accommodating.

Before the flight ended, he gave us copies of his albums and thanked us for the nice flight. Ofcourse, picture taking would not be missed and even foreign crew posed for photos with this famous Filipino balladeer.

Life is just great! Thank you Dad!

Problem or Solution

Problem or solution - we hear a lot of this in our everyday lives. But do we really know what the significance of these words is?

Merriam Webster defines problem as a source of perplexity or distress, while solution is an answer, as simple as that. With matters defined, how does it affect our daily lives?

Problems are trials we encounter before achieving a desired purpose. It exists when an individual becomes aware of a significant difference between what actually is and what is desired. People decide and control their fate and sometimes opt to just be affected by the problem; worst, be carried away by it. This influences their attitude, transcends negative energy and causes stress; eventually, look wrinkled and old. Instead of finding a solution, they choose to be a problem.

Solution is the approach in claiming an objective. Solution-people are positive thinker - they have objective, lay down priorities, craft plans and its alternatives, and most of all, they have faith in realizing the goal. Rather than go back to the coast and wait for a storm to subside, people who choose to sail through become stronger and in time, provides other people with knowledge and wisdom in dealing about life. They are generally successful, look young and beautiful. They always have the solution; simply, they are the solution.

So, would you be afffected by problems or be a solution?

I'm a solution. How about you?

Life is Just Great!

Life is just great! And this is what we should always claim in His name.

With the current financial crisis in our society, we should always be positive and trust that our Almighty Father has the perfect plan for each of us. We may have encountered downsides of life but cliche it may be, light at the end of the tunnel awaits those who dream and believe.

An example of a wonderful lifestyle is that of a flight attendant. This journal will be talking about a cabin crew's everyday living, mainly, constitutes traveling from all over the world. This will also feature latest gadgets which most of us love. Health and fitness is of the essence and considered a major routine during off-flights. We are also expose to the latest fashion trends in the different sides of map. How is it knowing world's local cuisines? And lots of random thoughts. In my humble ways, I will share my opinions, views and experiences with regard to all of these.

I endured a fair share of hardship, yet, I had a vision, I believed and I witnessed how wonderful Dad works. It was just amazing to always realize the reasons of 'not so good things' happening to us only as we finish wandering a dark tunnel.

Now that I'm living the time of my life, all praises to my Dad. After all, life is just great!
